Acclaimed contemporary Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown says about the show, "it's about one moment. Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue to meet a startling array of characters ranging from a young man who has determined that basket-ball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams and a soulless marriage.
With a small, powerhouse multi-ethnic cast and a driving, exquisitely crafted score running the gamut of today’s popular music, "Songs for a New World" is a great way to bring the next generation into the theatre. Directed and Choreographed by David Loudermilk. Music Directed by Chiaki Ito.

FILM DISCUSSION: “Learning with the Lights Off: Readin', Writin', and Revolution.”
This event will provide a special opportunity for the Wilmington public to encounter some wildly rare and historically rich samples of American educational cinema. Included in the evening’s activities will be a scholarly introduction to the subject from NC State professor Marsha Orgeron, Associate Professor of Film Studies. She is co-editor of "The Moving Image" and an editor of the recently published "Learning with the Lights Off, Educational Film in the United States" with Oxford University Press. As well as a special screening of culturally provocative and colorful 16mm classroom films from the ’60s and ‘70s by archivist Skip Elsheimer. This casual and interactive introduction to educational cinema promises to be tons of fun – both for film enthusiasts and people interested in the history of American culture more generally. This event is co-sponsored by the Cameron Art Museum and the Department of Film Studies at UNCW. Seating is limited.
