OutreachCameron Art Museum continues its education program, Kids @ CAM, from noon ? 3:00 pm one Saturday a month. These days are focused on young museum goers, engaging them in tours, treasure hunts and art activities. Museum education coordinator Georgia Mastroieni, designs these programs around the current exhibitions and general art themes. Our child docent program is a central feature of Kids @ CAM. Eleven-year-old docent Rachel Walter leads children and their families through exhibitions, providing information as well as asking their peers thought-provoking questions. Walter says of her docent role, "I love learning about the artists, how they act and what influences and helps them create their work. It?s also kind of cool to be able to say to my friends, 'I work at the museum and I give tours there'". Please check the calendar page of this website or visit the museum for updates on the focus of each event. History came alive with the first event focusing on the Civil War site, The Battle of Forks Road Road, on the grounds of the art museum on February 25 and 26, 2006. Re-enactors and their families set up living heritage camps to showcase life--from cooking to period games--in the late 1800s. Speakers put the skirmish into historical context and military re-enactors gave a taste of the sights and sounds of the war. The museum collaborates with other non-profit organizations to give the community access to special collections, programs and performances. Check calendar for details. |
